Master Authentic, Combat Tested Kung Fu Skills Faster Than You Ever Thought Possible

Discover the modern evolution of kung fu training that gives you elite confidence, precision, and control without endless workouts or mystical martial arts gurus

I met Damen through the martial arts community and his knowledge and experience in real old style Shaolin Kung Fu is excellent.

He is able to make old traditional methods more accessible to a western audience using modern sports science.

I had Damien as a personal trainer for several months in Sydney, and he helped me improve my all round functional strength, as well as lose almost 10kg!

- Will Wain-Williams (Monkey Steals Peach)

It’s incredible training with Damien. His expertise, patience, and dedication transformed my understanding of martial arts. I improved my strength and flexibility, and gained confidence and discipline.

The personalized approach made every session engaging and motivating. I highly recommend him to anyone looking to learn authentic Kung Fu. Especially his knowledge about old and traditional Kung Fu is exactly what i am looking for. Truly a fantastic trainer!

Does this sound like you?

✅ You’ve been learning kung fu, but you have no idea how to make it work in sparring

✅ You’re starting to wonder if kung fu actually works or if you just aren’t good enough

✅ You’ve been struggling to find a teacher that can give you everything you need

✅ You’ve tried training more, but you’re still not happy with your progress

You’re not alone…

I used to feel the same.
I was losing faith in kung fu, but then I learned the forgotten skills that make kung fu an effective fighting style for anyone.

I’d been training kung fu for years, I’d even started teaching. I thought I knew my stuff, but then in walked a gargantuan man with years of kickboxing under his belt. He towered over me; most people are taller than I am, but I’d never trained with anyone this big before…

When we sparred, I squared up, ready to put him to the test. Sure he was big, but with the right approach that should be manageable; get inside and make those long limbs a disadvantage. But within moments of starting I felt powerless. Getting close enough to hit him was almost impossible; I tried every trick I knew to no effect, he was more than capable of keeping me away. I was nowhere near landing a single punch on this guy.

On the few occasions I managed to land a solid kick, my small victory vanished in an instant- a stiff jab would snap my head back before my foot even returned to the floor. Somehow my kicks didn’t reach any further than his arms and his limbs were everywhere I was. I knew that if he hadn’t been holding back I would be left embarrassed, sprawled on the floor.

Afterwards, I sat there frustrated. I couldn’t help but ask myself, had I wasted all my years of kung fu training?

What good was it if it only worked on people my size?

As I replayed the fight in my mind trying to figure out what had gone wrong, it suddenly struck me harder than he just had; despite all my years of training I had reverted- like so many do- to fighting like a kickboxer, almost completely ignoring my kung fu.

The next time we sparred I forced myself to try different things, to lean into my kung fu. This time I was able to evade his attacks and defend myself much better, but closing the distance to land a decent strike still felt more like luck than skill or tactics.

My belief in kung fu was waning…

I was ready to quit what had been my passion for years.

But just as I was ready to give up, I met a man who had spent more than a decade travelling around secluded villages, learning lost kung fu secrets from old masters. He understood the most important piece of the puzzle that ties everything together; the link between kung fu training and real combat.

He showed me that the reason my kung fu failed was because I was building my skills on the wrong foundation. True kung fu combat isn’t just about forms and techniques, it’s about how you move, how you hold yourself and the strategy you use.

But for years, whilst I had been training kung fu, I was taught the footwork, tactics and posture of kickboxing. Why had no one ever told me about this?! Well, it turns out even most of the masters in China teach in this disjointed way. I now knew why I had been failing; those kickboxing foundations were never meant to support kung fu.

Using the traditional kung fu concepts he taught me, plus modern sports science approaches, I developed new frameworks for training and rebuilt my fighting style. I accelerated my progress beyond what I ever thought I’d achieve.

When I next came up against the gargantuan kickboxer I fought very differently, and his size was no longer a huge advantage. I could close the distance, I could land strikes and not get hit right back, and I was using techniques which he never saw coming. The tables had turned and I was truly fighting with kung fu!

A few years later, I found myself in a competition against a national kickboxing champion on his way to going pro. On paper it should have been an easy win for him, but each exchange where I held ground and each technique that landed cleanly, confirmed something profound; this training had transformed me into someone who could stand toe to toe with elite fighters. He earned a points victory, but I had earned his respect.

I certainly didn’t get here because of talent or natural athleticism; it was the right knowledge and training systems that made the difference. If I can do it, so can you.

But you don’t have to waste years struggling to work it all out. I’ve mapped out the path for you, and it’s never been easier to unlock the potential of your kung fu.

  • It takes things from individual ‘puzzle pieces’ and lets you see the big picture

I’ve been training for years, and I’m constantly amazed at the depth of knowledge that Damien brings out. It not only helps you to perform movements correctly, but having that background info helps you understand their purpose and when/how to use them.
    - Brennan Salibrici

  • Damien has always impressed me with the knowledge he brings to his coaching

His classes are challenging, fun and varied.

I’d definitely recommend working with him to anyone looking to expand their understanding of martial arts or improve their fitness.
    - Neil Hamilton Fairley

  • I’ve really enjoyed working with Damien

It’s better than I hoped. I’m a very demanding client, but he always meets it with a smile.
    -Clara Zawawi

  • My biggest reservation was my injuries

Damien adjusted things for me, whilst still pushing me and getting me moving like someone much healthier. Thanks for doing what you do!
    - Kyle Wooten

  • I was unsure about online coaching

Plus I didn’t think I would have the time given how busy my life is. The way the programme is delivered is great though. The online aspect worked really well, and I loved how flexible and well thought out the whole thing was.

Damien has a great teaching style. I found him to be very knowledgeable and able to explain things really clearly. Keep up the great work!

Do what Bruce Lee couldn’t and win fights definitively with traditional kung fu

Here's the harsh reality most kung fu practitioners don't want to admit: 90% of the time they ignore what they’ve learned and revert to fighting like a second-rate kickboxer.

And no, it’s not because your techniques are “too deadly” for the ring…

I’ve seen it countless times and I’ve even done it myself.

You spend years learning applications, drilling sophisticated techniques and mastering unique skills, only to default to basic punches and kicks when it matters most. You become predictable, reactive, maybe even shelling up or swinging clumsily; you fight just like some of the worst fighters your opponent has ever faced.

All those years of training, reduced to the same basic moves everyone else uses, but without even a strategy to make them work. At best, you randomly throw out a few kung fu moves, but with no clear plan it’s just a desperate gamble. A split second later your head snaps back as you get punched in the nose, your eyes start to water and your vision blurs.

Fighting like this you’ll always be a step behind, never gaining the advantage you need to face bigger, stronger, or more experienced opponents. You’re left wondering if kung fu can ever work in a fight. It looks good in the movies, but are MMA, Muay Thai and kickboxing just more useful in real life?

The truth is, kung fu isn’t the problem… but it’s not your fault either.

The problem is the missing pieces of the puzzle that link your training to real fighting and allow you to effectively use what you know.

This is why I created the Kung Fu Fighting Framework- combining the ancient principles of authentic kung fu with cutting-edge sports science, to fill the gaps in found in most kung fu training. The result? A fighting system that lets you win fights whilst genuinely using your kung fu.

It allows you to:

  • Deploy sophisticated techniques under real pressure

  • Land strikes that your opponents will never see coming

  • Hit with more power and speed than you ever thought you could

  • Turn your "complicated" applications into natural, reflexive movements

  • Generate explosive power from any position to catch opponents off guard

  • Develop strategies to maintain control, no matter what your opponents throw at you

  • Maintain the unique advantage of your kung fu instead of defaulting to basic kickboxing

The Kung Fu Fighting Framework isn't about learning more techniques or endless drilling. It's about making your kung fu effective for fighting by underpinning it with the right foundations.

Think about where you are right now:

  • Reverting to basic kickboxing when you spar

  • Training complex techniques that disappear under pressure

  • Shelling up, losing your unique defensive skills in the heat of the moment

  • Feeling frustrated that your advanced training isn't translating to real fighting

Now imagine stepping into a fight- on the street, in class, in competition- with complete confidence and a unique advantage:

  • No longer thinking about individual moves but instead delivering devastating combinations as a natural reflex

  • Having a complete fighting gameplan for any opponent and the skills to execute it even when things get tough

  • Using techniques that other fighters will never expect and have never trained how to counter

  • Controlling the situation so that you can fight on your terms

This isn't theoretical, it’s proven. This is the Kung Fu Fighting Framework; a combination of traditional kung fu principles with modern sports science and refined fighting drills. It’s a system that unlocks your inner kung fu master, so that you can be a real kung fu fighter, not just another wannabe kickboxer.

Not only this, but because of its focussed, science backed approach, you’ll make more progress in 3-5 hours of training a week than most do in a whole month. Even if you can only commit to 2 hours of quality training, you’ll see yourself progress past others that are stuck in their old ways.

Picture yourself six months from now:

  • Maintaining your technical edge even under intense pressure

  • Moving with speed and poise that catches opponents off guard

  • Throwing out those cool moves you never thought you could use

  • Being able to execute your kung fu techniques against any fighter

  • Fighting in a way that uses your natural talents to give you the advantage

  • Finally expressing your full kung fu potential in real combat

While others are wasting their years of kung fu training, stuck either fighting like a beginner kickboxer or trying to make unrealistic techniques work, you'll be developing something more powerful, something that makes you stand out - a fighting style that effectively uses your years of training.

This is about turning your kung fu into a real fighting weapon. No more defaulting to basic kicks and punches. No more losing your edge under pressure. Just effective kung fu that wins fights.

Are you ready to stop fighting like everyone else and start using what makes you dangerous?

The secret to turning your kung fu into a unique fighting system that makes you a fight winning machine is simple.

  1. Discover the footwork and strategies you were never taught;
master the foundations of your kung fu to unlock your combat potential.

  2. Use cutting-edge training techniques that push your fitness to new heights;
strike with more power, move faster and outlast your opponents.

  3. Build a unique fighting style designed around your strengths;
fight in a way that best suits you, not like a poor copy of your coach.

That’s all you need to transform your frustration and uncertainty into the fierce confidence of a true martial artist, with combat ready kung fu skills to back it up.

You could try and work this all out for yourself. You could travel to a distant mountain in search of a mystical guru. You could redouble your training efforts….

You still wont be any closer to your goals. You’ll still be stuck wondering if you are cut out for this, wondering if everything you heard about kung fu was a lie.

But with the Kung Fu Fighting Framework, you have everything you need to succeed.

I built the Kung Fu Fighting Framework to take traditional kung fu all the way from the core foundations to applied combat, and boosted it all with the latest training science, so that you can:

  • Fight like the kung fu master you were meant to be, with sharp, flowing precision and incredible force

  • Train in a way that increases your skills as fast as possible

  • Know exactly what works for YOU without endless trial and error

  • Dominate your opponents with elite strength, effortless speed, enormous power and endless endurance

  • Gain a tactical edge over modern sports fighters and traditionalists that never took this step

FAQs

  • Yes, learning online is just as effective as in person training, although it is different. I’ve been teaching this way for years, and have developed strategies to ensure my students achieve their best.

Lifetime access to your private training vault means you’ll never forget anything or and video feedback means you never train in isolation. Plus the Kung Fu Fighting Framework is open to you wherever you live.

One of the best uses of your training time is developing fluid, efficient and powerful movements that feel natural. This groundwork is best done solo, rather than splitting your time between training and holding pads, or waiting around for other people like you would in an in person class.

For that final piece of skill development the Combat Skills Pathway gives you drills, games and sparring goals to use in person.

  • I get it, modern life is busy! You don't need endless training hours to see results. Using modern sports science, we build your skills and attributes efficiently.

The minimum commitment for improvement is just 2 hours weekly, though 4-6 hours would be ideal. If a week goes completely off course, or weekly one-to-ones don’t work we’ll adjust to ensure your training programme fits your personal schedule.

  • Don’t worry, neither was I when I started! Using the Kung Fu Fighting Framework you will become stronger, fitter, more flexible and coordinated than you ever thought possible.

Plus, since we will be building a fighting style that suits your natural talents, if you can’t do something like high kicks yet, we simply won’t use them.

  • Whilst the Kung Fu Fighting Framework has been developed from folk style Shaolin, the skills and concepts are useful for most long fist/ northern kung fu styles, because they have the same stances and many similar movement patterns.

While each style has unique characteristics, this knowledge will help you see your style from a fresh perspective and develop your existing knowledge into a new framework.

  • VIP coaching maximizes the value of your training time by providing completely personalized instruction. Unlike group classes, you won't waste time holding pads, repeating familiar material, or struggling with concepts beyond your level. Sessions adapt to your specific needs, spending exactly the right amount of time on each element

This personalized approach helps develop your unique fighting style based on your strengths and preferences. No more being a clone of your coach, or middle of the road fighter with no specific tactics or strategy of your own.

  • The Training Partners and Location Guide helps you find training partners, or bring this material into your existing training space, but if you truly can’t find anyone, don’t worry.

While partner training helps sharpen your skills and refine your style, you can still build the skills, power, speed and endurance you need to fight without it. Did you know that Eoghan Chelmiah Karate Combat’s first bantamweight champion, started with a 5 fight winning streak even though he never sparred in training?

Solo practice will effectively sharpen your tools so you're ready when you need them.

  • The Kung Fu Fighting Framework stands apart in several key ways.

It is built from the ground up with traditional kung fu; unlike almost every other kung fu school, even in China, there isn’t a separation between kung fu and fighting. Instead you will learn the foundational skills that very few people still know, so that kung fu can form the basis of your fighting style.

This creates a truly unique fighting style different from standard MMA or muay thai approaches, giving you a strategic edge through kung fu's distinctive techniques.

My background as a personal trainer and general science and fitness nerd means that your training is optimised for faster skill development and physical conditioning. Most martial arts teachers use outdated methods like long runs, endless push ups and crunches, but this is just a waste of your time and energy. I use scientifically proven ways to increase your strength, speed, power and endurance.

Put simply, the Kung Fu Fighting Framework is everything you need to become a fight winning machine, whilst staying true to kung fu, and you won’t get that anywhere else.

  • I get it, there’s a lot of big claims in the traditional martial arts. This isn’t anything mystical, it’s real, applicable knowledge, which has simply become rare.

I’ve been fortunate enough to train with a man that’s been described as knowing more about kung fu than anyone. He spent over a decade travelling to remote villages to learn kung fu from old masters that started training decades before the Cultural Revolution restricted kung fu teaching.

Not only that, but their remoteness preserved the older ways of practicing kung fu.

Around 400 years ago “short strike” mechanics (which are more like modern martial arts) gained favour over “long fist” ones in China. Drills, applications and forms, gradually changed in response, but many of the old characteristics remained in northern kung fu. This started the rift between combat and traditional kung fu movements which grew over time.

In the 20th century being able to fight unarmed became less important, and the emphasis shifted towards health benefits, further diminishing kung fu’s link to fighting.

My friend is passionate about preserving this knowledge which has been slowly dying out, but he doesn’t actively fight. Meanwhile I’ve been exploring modern combat sports like muay thai, wrestling, BJJ and MMA for years, and taken that traditional knowledge into a competitive training environment.

  • No problem! Whilst some elements of the Kung Fu Fighting Framework might not be suitable for you yet, starting out with me will give you the best possible foundation to get awesome kung fu skills as fast as possible. I’ve taught hundreds of people just like you. Once you are ready for more advanced material we’ll transition right into it.

  • Absolutely! Whilst the original purpose of kung fu was fighting, many now do it for fun and fitness. Learning the foundations of kung fu and better understanding applications, will make your kung fu better!

When you struggle with a movement, knowing the application and foundational principles helps you to understand how it should be performed.

So if you just want to get better at kung fu the Kung Fu Fighting Framework will be very useful.

  • Of course! I coach people living all over the world. We’ll schedule your sessions to suit your time zone and lifestyle, so that you can always find a time to train.

  • Aside from everything that you’ll be learning, we’ll be tracking your workouts and your skill development through the whole process, so that we can be clear on where you are making progress, and where you might need a little extra help.

  • My coaching is judgement free and 100% focused on your growth. I’ve seen it all from absolute beginners to seasoned martial artists, but you don’t need to impress me, you just need to show up. No one else will see your training, just me, and I’m here to help you feel confident in yourself and your abilities.

  • You don’t need much space. If you can do 3 lunges forward without knocking into anything, and lay down across the middle of that space you should be OK. You want to make sure there is nothing that you might accidentally hit too.

A mirror (so that you can see yourself), a smartphone camera (for recording feedback videos) and a heavy bag/punching bag will do for your skills training.

For the attribute training you will get the fastest results with access to a full gym, but you can also get great training at home with just a few dumbbells and resistance bands.
